Teachers

Melissa Dileo, 4-year-old teacher

“I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the world.  To help a child learn, to see the light bulb go off when they get it, to be part of that is really special. My hope is that I start my students on the path of lifetime learning.”

My name is Melissa Dileo. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Scranton. My family and I have lived in Aquia Harbour since 2004, and we have been involved at Aquia Harbour Preschool ever since, as all 3 of my children attended the preschool. As a parent I served on the AHPS Board of Directors as the President and as Secretary. Our family enjoyed our years at the preschool where we have many fond memories and created lasting friendships. Now it is my pleasure to be able to contribute to the preschool in a new way as teacher.

I have been teaching the 4-year-old classes at AHPS since 2012, and I hope to create many good memories for your family as well as a good educational base for your children as they prepare to start Kindergarten. I have been actively involved in many community organizations during my time in Stafford, VA. I am a member of the Aquia Harbour Women’s Club where I have held various officer positions. I was the President of Brooke Point High School PTSO and Treasurer of Brooke Point High School PTSO After Prom. I also served on the board of the Moncure PTO and participated on the Shirley Heim PTO. I was a Girl Scout Leader for my daughters, and was Treasurer of the Aquia Harbour Bingo Committee. I served on the SCPS Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committees and the Redistricting Committees. When my youngest child started Kindergarten, I went back to teaching as a substitute teacher for Aquia Harbour Preschool and Stafford County Schools. I love teaching, and I am looking forward to meeting and working with all of you this school year.

Maureen Crowe, 3-year-old teacher

Mrs. Crowe grew up in Aquia Harbour and is happy to have moved back to raise her three children here! Her daughter attended our preschool and as a parent, she was involved with nearly every committee. Prior to beginning the greatest job ever (Mom), she worked for the same company for sixteen years in a management position. Later, she was employed at Regester Chapel Children’s Center for two years. While it is a great school, and she loved working with the children, her heart belongs to Aquia Harbour preschool.

Mrs. Crowe is a dedicated volunteer at Anne E. Moncure Elementary school, serving as the secretary of the PTO and has been the volunteer coordinator for their clothing sale (the schools largest fundraiser) for three years. She consistently volunteers in her children’s classrooms, helping coordinate special events such as this year’s multi-cultural day and the therapy dog reading program. She also serves as the Appreciations chair for the county wide SEPTA. Additionally, she is actively involved with Shirley Heim Middle School and Brook Point High school. We are beyond thrilled to have Mrs. Crowe on our team, ready with loving arms and sweet stories of each of our preschoolers.

Mrs. Pierce and two preschool aged students
Heather Pierce, 3 & 4 year old teacher’s aide

Mrs. Pierce has lived in Aquia Harbour for over 10 years and all three of her children attended the Aquia Harbour Preschool. She has worked hard for our preschool through the years, serving on the Board of Directors as the Vice President (twice!), the Fundraising Chairperson, Room Parent and assisted on nearly every committee.

She was previously our school’s substitute teacher for more than 5 years. Mrs. Pierce has been actively involved with the Anne E. Moncure Elementary School, most recently as PTO Appreciations and previously as PTO Co-Treasurer, PTO Co-Communications Chair, and serving on several committees, as well as involvement with Shirley Heim Middle School and Brook Point High School. Since 2006 she has also been a Girl Scout Leader, one of her most rewarding volunteer experiences. We are thrilled to have her creative talents in our classroom.
